Listen to that! The psalmist knew the importance of saying things out loud! David declared what God had declared and, in this way, received to himself what God had given. He had a grasp of a key principle. It looks like he knew that it wasn't until he heard himself saying what God had said that he would really take it to heart.
Here's the way to change the course heading of your life: speak INTO your life what God has spoken OVER your life! Ponder God's Word by speaking what God has spoken. This is Christian meditation. What you do is you put His words in your own mouth and hear yourself saying them. The beginning of taking something to heart is declaring it with your mouth so your ears hear you saying it. You don't take anyone quite as seriously as you do yourself. It is what you yourself say that gets your greatest attention and gets your greatest response! Psa.1:2, Ja.3:4-5a.
Preach to yourself! You can be the best preacher you ever had! By declaring aloud God's word you can preach it to yourself in a way that will effect you more than any other preacher ever will. You'll start taking to heart what you are declaring. Declare what God has declared and your heart will take up those declarations - they'll find ground to take root in. Tend them like seedlings in your garden and the season of harvest will come! You'll see godliness and every good thing blossom up in your life. 1Tim.4:15, Gal.6:9.
