God's beautiful pity

by Pastor Simon

As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

Psalm 103:13-14 - NKJV

The pity the Lord has for us is special. It's the beautiful pity that Christian parents have for their tiny, new born baby. The hearts of those parents go out to their child. Their desire is to cherish, provide and protect their little one. This is how the Lord is with you and me. Psa.145:8-9.

Am I a new born that God should feel that way about me? I may not feel like I am but in the scale of infinity (eternity) I am. What comfort I find in this knowledge of how God feels about me as His child! He's not expecting too much of me. He recognises that life's new to me and at times I won't get things quite right. He enjoys seeing my attempts at it, though, especially when I do it in joy. He's delighted also when I ask Him to give me a hand or show me how it's done. And, if I'll let Him, when I do make a mess He's on hand to mop it up for me. Psa.37:23-24.

How sad that many of God's children will not let Him have such a relationship with them. A lot of Christians remind me of the stubbornly independent toddler who won't accept Mummy's help with the buttons. God wants to help. It's seems to me that God would rather we enjoy and appreciate His care for us than that we struggle on getting no where. The time will come with maturity in Christ that He will set us tasks requiring minimal intervention from Him. In the meantime, enjoy His beautiful pity for you as it exhibits itself in the help He's so willing to provide. Joh.16:23-24.

You are to God His much beloved little child!
