Prayer
Cornelius...a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. In a vision...an angel...said to him, 'Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.'
Acts 10:1-4 - NKJV
We need to have a strong vision for prayer! The scripture passage I quote above can help build that vision in you. The salvation of the Gentiles was decreed of God in Christ Jesus. Nevertheless, a person of prayer was needed. Cornelius was that person. His prayers sanctioned Heaven's intervention so that a way was made for Peter to preach salvation to the Gentiles. In other words, Cornelius' prayers were pivotal in bringing salvation to the Gentiles!
Awhile ago a Christian friend told me he was really stirred to pray. As his reason he explained, "It's because I heard someone say 'Without God we can't, without us God won't'." I liked that. However, he then added, "I suggest, though, that despite us God will anyway." Well, I had to raise some objection to that. I said, "The 'God will anyway' principle only works for major prophetic events." You see when it comes to our own individual lives God waits to be invited on the scene before intervening. It is your prayer that invites God in!
Prayer changes the default setting of our lives. The default setting is God leaves man to it unless he requests otherwise. This is the default setting because God created man with free choice. Prayer declares the choice to have God act! Prayer becomes a memo to that choice in Heaven. It becomes a memorandum that comes up before God sanctioning His actions in your life and the lives of others.
Let your prayers be a memo in Heaven!
