Prayer

by Pastor Simon

Cornelius...a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. In a vision...an angel...said to him, 'Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.'

Acts 10:1-4 - NKJV

Let's have a strong vision for prayer. Build your vision for prayer by taking in the Bible narrative above. Before doing so realise this, the salvation of the Gentiles was decreed of God in Christ Jesus. Nevertheless, a person of prayer was needed. Cornelius was that person. His prayers sanctioned Heaven's intervention so that a way was made for Peter to preach salvation to the Gentiles. In other words, Cornelius' prayers were pivotal in bringing salvation to those not called Jews.

Awhile ago a Christian friend told me he was really stirred to pray. In way of explanation he said, "It's because I heard someone say 'Without God we can't, without us God won't'." I agreed that was good. He added however, "I suggest, though, that despite us God will anyway." Well, I had to raise some objection to that. I said, "The 'God will anyway' principle only works for major prophetic events." You see when it comes to our own individual lives God waits to be invited on the scene before intervening. It is our prayers that invites God in.

Prayer changes the default setting of our lives. The default setting is this, God leaves man to it unless he requests otherwise. This is the default setting because God created man with free choice. In prayer you declare your choice to have God involved. Prayer becomes a memo recording that choice before Heaven. It becomes a memorandum that comes up before God sanctioning His actions in your life and the lives of others.

Let your prayers be a memo in Heaven
