Spiritual garden maintenance

by Pastor Simon

Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps...who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.

1 Peter 2:21,23 - NKJV

When you are reviled, persecuted or shunned by others you feel reproached! When people let you down you experience disappointment. When you feel a wrong is committed against you you are tempted by bitterness. None of these ought to find place in your heart though; watch you don't give ground to any of them!

Your heart is at the core of your being. It is in the heart that things are conceived. It is in the heart that they are nurtured until they are ready to be birthed into your life. For this reason you need to keep your heart like a prized garden. Watch what you give ground to there! Don't allow disappointment, reproach or bitterness find place in it! Such things will make your heart barren. "How can I possibly not give them place," you ask, "given the emotional reaction I experience at those times?" Commit them over wholly to God so He can sort everything to do with them out! Luk.6:45, Prov.4:23, Heb.12:15.

God says to you, "Deposit all your disappointment - and the reviling and the sufferings others cause - with Me!" He calls on you to commit all of this to Him and count Him faithful to deal with it all. Give Him full responsibility to take care of it so that things are set right, hurts are healed and relationships too can be mended. Deposit every reproach, disappointment, burden and care in God's hands! 1 Pet.5:7.

Keep your heart as a beautiful garden!
