Restoring thanksgiving
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 - KJV
On one particular day I went through most of it struggling with a sense of unfulfilment, frustration and carrying a burden. I couldn't understand why. The following morning in devotions I sensed on the inside God saying, "Stop a moment, look what I say about thanksgiving!" I opened my Bible to where it says, "In every thing give thanks." As I took that instruction seriously and began to do it I found the heavy feeling of the day before wonderfully lifted away!
A primary will of God for you and me is giving thanks. Every time you get yourself away from this will of God for your life you experience problems in regard to other areas of the will of God. This means, for example, if you are seeking for God's detailed will in your life you won't be recognising it if you're not acting on this general will of thanksgiving. Why is this? It's because as a new creation God has made you a priest before Him. Your first service to Him is ministering thanksgiving and praise in His presence. This will even effect prayer. You'll get increasingly ineffective in intercession for others if you're not starting your prayer for them with thanksgiving. 1Tim.2:1-4, 1Pet.2:5,9.
Put your priestly service of thanksgiving to God in a primary place in your life. Do this and all the rest of the will of God for you will start to be revealed to you and start to be fulfilling for you! Make a commitment to giving thanks in all things. By it you'll find you'll settle down and be satisfied and fruitful in all the other programs God has for you.
Be a person of thanksgiving!
