Strength comes from prayer
"Why are you sleeping?" he asked, "Get up and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you."
Luke 22:46 - New Living Translation
In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus asked the disciples a chiding question. He followed this up with words of exhortation and warning. What had they been doing? Jesus had called them to pray but they had slept. Shortly afterwards men arrived to arrest Jesus. As He was taken away the disciples fled. The disciples had done little in response to Jesus' call to pray and now, as a result, the temptation of the moment overpowered them. Only Peter returned later to "follow at a distance". Mat.26:36-56.
The greatest part of any problem you have with lack of closeness to Jesus comes from your lack of endeavour in prayer. You go to sleep spiritually in testing times instead of stirring yourself up to pray. Keep awake praying and God's angel can strengthen you like he strengthened Jesus. In the strength of the angel you can keep on track with God and in His will. You can fulfil in this present time your role for God as Jesus did in His! Luk.22:43.
How did you do in your last trying time? If the devil can't get you to do evil, he works hard at getting you to forsake God's way of handling life's challenges. He attempts to get you to leave off walking with Christ. What's the answer? It's earnestly praying daily! Petition the Father in prayer as Jesus petitioned Him in the Gethsemane. The disciples later learnt to petition when they were under threat. May you be blessed in doing likewise! See Luk.22:42; Act.4:23-31.
May you find strength in prayer
