Walking consistently
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.
2 Peter 1:10 - KJV
Why do some Christians come into greater possession of their inheritance in Christ than others? It really comes down to the diligence that is spoken of in that scripture I've given you above. The reason why one Christian seems to enjoy so much of what Christ has provided for us and another so little is usually not a matter of knowledge but a difference in diligence.
A prescription for a blessed life is found in the Bible. Applied with consistency this prescription will establish salvation and Christ's inheritance in your life. A good example of the way this works is seen in the work of a farmer. He desires a good reward for his labours. He knows that leaving the farm unattended to on some days and working on it others won't give him a good reward so he shows daily diligence. Your spiritual farm needs the same kind of diligence. What is often lacking is not the knowledge of God but the consistency in applying that knowledge. Many Christians do what they know to do one day and skip doing it the next.
To help you remember this, here's a little joke about skipping days while on the prescription. A woman took her elderly father to the doctor. As the doctor handed her his prescription he said, "Now your father should take this one day and then skip a day, take this one day and then skip a day and so on. Come back in two weeks." Two weeks later the woman returned with the sad news that her father had passed away. "What happened?" the doctor asked. "The prescription was doing wonders for him," she said, "but all that skipping killed him!"
Live daily in the knowledge of God!
