His-story, our story

by Pastor Simon

Concerning Israel he says, 'All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.'

Romans 10:21 - NIV

Wouldn't it be good if we could write a new chapter in church history? Let's write a chapter about God's people being teachable. In the scripture above we hear about God holding out His hands in a gesture of appeal to mankind. By failing to heed this appeal the children of Israel brought about their own failure to enter into and stay within the realm of God's promises of prosperity and well-being in the Promised Land. On the contrary, their obstinacy in the face of teaching and their disobedience in the face of counsel resulted in them ending up in an awful mess.

The mess you and I get ourselves in happens because either we aren't positioning ourselves ready to hear from God or we aren't making ourselves open to be easily taught. Even when we do, we often fail to respond well to the teaching we receive. How often have you got in a mess because you chose to ignore His appeal and continued walking in a way you'd already made up your mind you were going to walk in? What do you think it might take to change this? Actually, it's a closer, open and more responsive relationship with the Holy Spirit that you need. Embrace Him as the Loving Teacher of the Trinity. What a major difference this will make in your life.

The Holy Spirit delights in teaching the counsel of God. How open are you to His counsel? How quick are you to hear? Do you delight in being taught as much as the Holy Spirit delights in teaching? Whose understanding are you leaning to? Is there anything over which you've obstinately decided to do it your own way? I trust not but, if you have, make a change! For His-story's sake, may you make the changes necessary to conform your life to His counsel. You can be sure your experience of Christ's victory will grow as you do. Prov.3:5-6.

Go God's way and find peace
