An eye-witness account
We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eye-witnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:16 - NIV
As I started to read a passage in Mark's Gospel this morning I felt urged to pray, "Cause me to hear with freshness and vibrancy the stories of what You did in Your ministry." I wrote that prayer down and I added to it, "Let me hear them not as an idle fancy but a living account of an actual event." In doing that immediately the Holy Spirit brought into my heart the verse above from Peter's second epistle.
You need to realise when you're reading your Bible that what you're reading is what the prophets were moved to speak. What was written down was what they were caused to speak as they were borne along by the Holy Spirit! What you have in the Bible is not a word willed into being by men but by God. In the Bible you're reading what God willed to speak (to communicate) to you and me. God has spoken to us both by the prophets and by His Son and in our Bibles you have a record of what He said. We will do well indeed to take very special heed to it! 2Pet.1:21.
Read a familiar passage of scripture again. I suggest something from the Gospels. Get right there on the scene of the account. Hear real people speaking in real situations. Sense their anticipation and emotions. Feel for them and with them. Hear Jesus speaking to them as if He were speaking to you, as if you were in their shoes! Ponder it. Reflect on it. God wants you to have a living experience with Him over His Word.
May your hearing of God's Word be a living experience!
