Preparations of the Spirit!

by Pastor Simon

'For the present,' Jesus answered (to John the Baptist), 'let it be so, for the right thing for us to do is to do everything a good man ought to do.'

Matthew 3:15 - William Barclay's translation

It's likely that that scripture I've presented is a familiar one to you. Nevertheless, you may be startled at how the translation I've used words the answer Jesus gave. Look at what comes out in it. We learn from it that in the situation facing Jesus He knew exactly what "a good man ought to do". This indicates much to us about the extent of Jesus' walk in love, joy, liberty and the power of God!

How about you and I walking that way today and in the days ahead? It is possible. It's possible by the power of God's Spirit and the work of God's Word! In that way, in the daily situations we face we can, like Jesus did, be receiving the knowledge of what "a good man ought to do". For this to happen there are two essential steps to take: 1) Make quality daily devotional time an essential part of your Christian lifestyle. 2) Make reflection and consideration of scripture a regular endeavour that you engage in diligently with the help of the Holy Spirit. 2Tim.2:15, Psa.119:130.

In your devotional time, follow the Spirit's leading to scripture passages with the promises and counsel for your day. In Bible study time, seek the Spirit's help in providing the light of one scripture to reveal the power of another. In this way, God can make available to you the very promises and scripture counsel you're going to need for situations you're going to face! "Your instruction in the law (God's word) gives you the ability to distinguish between competing moral choices" Ro.2:18 - Barclay.

Let the Spirit prepare you for what is to come!
