The favour of the Lord

by Pastor Simon

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because he has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor...To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 4:18-19 - NKJV

Our Lord Jesus told us the Spirit of God was on Him to proclaim "the acceptable year of the Lord". Joseph Thayer describes that time as "the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound." I want you to take note of two things in particular that come with that day - the acceptable year of the Lord brings salvation and free favours!

The realisation that in Christ we had God's favour profoundly changed my life and our condition in life. In waking up to what we had in Christ, my wife and I saw that we didn't have to just survive on miracles, as we had been doing, we could actually live in God's blessings. The recognition of this caused us to embark on new ventures which previously we would have never considered. We did so because we were now expecting God's favour. We took actions based on this expectation and as a result good things started to come together for us and develop. In our new confidence we made new investments, new God-directed purchases and took new educational directions for our children. We even took up new leisure pursuits and new involvement in church and community life. Gal.3:14, Psa.102:13, Isa.43:19.

A way for good things to happen in your life is created by the favour of God towards you. In Christ, the favour of God accompanies you. In His favour to you He opens doors of opportunity for you and shows you how to profit by them. He makes the crooked parts of your way ahead straight and where there is darkness on your way He provides light! Walking in God's favour you find restoration, release, respite from your enemies, refuge and rest! Isa.42:16.

May you revel in God's favour through Jesus!
