Rescued to be a rescuer

by Pastor Simon

When Abram heard that [his nephew] had been captured, he...pursued the enemy...And he brought back all the goods and also brought back his kinsman Lot and his possessions, the women also and the people.

Genesis 14:14-16 - Amplified Bible

Lot made a bad decision when he parted from Abram at Bethel. In choosing for himself the plain of Jordan he also chose close proximity with the wicked of Sodom. Subsequently, when Sodom was overrun he was overrun also and carried away captive together with them. Abram soon heard of this and he committed himself to pursuit. He pursued Lot's his enemies, defeated them and rescued Lot, his people and all his goods. Genesis 13-14.

It cost Abram a lot to rescue Lot. He risked his life for him. He went out sacrificially on Lot's behalf because he knew the blessing and protection he had from God could be Lot's salvation. The salvation Abram brought to Lot had a lasting effect on him. As Sodom and Gomorrah got more and more wicked Lot remained a righteous man and in the day of their judgement he was delivered. 2 Peter 2:7-9.

You probably know someone who needs rescuing or those who need their health, goods or family restored back from the enemy. Can you give from yourself, your faith, your gifts and your blessing in Christ to rescue them and restore their goods? Of course, there will be a cost to you in rescuing your brethren but in doing so you can bring salvation to them! Their deliverance from their enemies and the recovery of whatever they have lost will be a lasting testimony to them. It will encourage them in a path of life and godliness from then on. Look to God for how you can pray or minister for the deliverance of someone He's brought to your attention or brought your way.

The Holy Spirit will guide you in helping others
