Eyes to see!
I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to You and You have healed me.
Psalm 30:1-2 - Amplified Bible
Could it be you're struggling today recognising the Lord's goodness toward you? The psalmist provides you with a simple remedy. Extol the Lord! I like that word "extol". It's a robust and determined word. It means to lift up, to raise or to exalt. The psalmist's decision to extol the Lord was enough to get him thinking on God's goodness towards him.
Sometimes my flesh reaction to conditions clamp up my mouth from extolling the Lord. At those times I open my Bible to some passage I know that will unclamp it. One that I find works faithfully every time is at the start of Paul's letter to the Colossians. I follow its list of things to praise and exalt God for. With that passage open in front of me I start thanking God that He has made me His child, conveyed me into the kingdom of His Son and redeemed me by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus. You can do that too! Col.1:12-14.
Spend five to ten minutes extolling the Lord! Praise Him. As you do you'll be surprised how quickly your heart will fill up with gratitude. Before you know it, you'll be thanking Him for the goodness He has shown to you in your life. Abraham extolled the Lord. As he did his eyes opened to God's goodness and it changed the way he was seeing things. As a result three things happened. 1) He recognised the goodness God had shown him, 2) he saw the goodness God was now showing to him and 3) he believed God for the goodness that was going to be shown to him! Ro.4:20.
See God's goodness as you praise Him!
