The Daily Guide
The Word works!
The seed sown on the stony patches represents the man who hears the message and eagerly accepts it. But it has not taken root in him and does not last long - the moment trouble or persecution arises through the message he gives up his faith at once.
Matthew 13:20-21 - J.B. Phillip's translation
God's Spirit through preachers and through your personal devotions sows God's word - the message - in your heart. In turn, the word sown gives you faith and revelation to benefit your life. However, there often comes a confrontation in your life because of that sown word that manifests itself as trouble or persecution.
You probably rejoiced over the word sown when you first heard it. What did you do with it after that? Did you make efforts to allow the implications and promise of it to sink in? This is required. You also needed to recognise the requirement of responding to it with personal change and development. That's how it takes root. The word of God works! Don't be heard saying, "The word didn't work for me!" rather if a harvest fails to come into your life because of it say, "I didn't work for the word!" If in times of trouble or persecution you let go of the faith and revelation the word came to give you then it means that word hadn't properly taken root in you. Isa.55:11.
From the word sown in your life can come a marvellous crop of peace. The word is worth working for. Give the crop a chance by working with the Holy Spirit to grasp the word's implication and promise. Ponder the word you've received. Reflect on the word you've heard with the help of the Holy Spirit. You also need worship, praise and prayer so the soil of your heart stays well tilled, warm and weed free! Mat.13:23.
Attend to the word and a crop will come!
